Short Sightedness and its Treatment
Short-sightedness is a common type of eye problem also known as myopia or nearsightedness. It is known to affect the ability of a person to focus objects clearly stationed far away but one can be able to focus objects stationed at a short radius.
Shortsightedness occurs when light is focused in front of the retina due to the eyeball being too long or the cornea is too curved and due to this, the eye is not able to focus light rays further back and on the retina.
Short-sightedness tends to be a hereditary disease such that babies can inherit the condition if their parents have the same condition; babies who are also born prematurely or born underweight are widely known to in future develop this condition. Some habitual behaviors are known to contribute to a higher rate of this condition.
People who are known to focus their reading habits mostly on closer objects are known to develop this condition, children or adults who do lots of close up work of reading books most of the time are known to develop this condition. Lawyers and doctors are most likely to develop this condition as they tend to read a lot.
The main symptom of short-sightedness is the inability to clearly focus objects stationed far away, clearly. The earlier it starts in your age the worse it can become in the near future but once one becomes an adult it is known to stabilize at that level.
People affected by these complications are known to be constantly hit by severe headaches due to them trying to strain their eyes in focusing on objects stationed at a larger distance.
Glasses are the main and the cheapest way of diagnosing myopia, it involves the usage of concave prescribed lenses as they tend to bend the light rays slightly outwards thus focusing the light rays on the retina.
Contact lenses are the way of trying to improve one’s vision without using frames as in glasses, the contact lenses can be disposable, extended-wear, monthly disposable, or nondisposable.
The main disadvantage of contact lenses is that they are quite expensive and require intense hygiene as compared to wearing glasses.
Surgery is the ultimate cure of short-sightedness as it ensures one does not need to wear glasses or contact lenses, it mainly involves laser surgery and usually comes at a higher cost mostly performed at private hospitals.
This diagnosis technique however is known to lead to some complications after surgery; some people are known to develop hazy vision a condition with night vision
