The streaming giant, Netflix is a go-to platform for people across the globe for quality entertainment. Netflix originals as well as sponsored series and movies have introduced us to customized entertainment options. The very concept of ‘binge-watching’ came with the said streaming forum.
Netflix’s extensive library is going to be more exciting with the addition of some excellent titles by the end of the year. So, instead of aimlessly surfing your channel list on Spectrum, it’s time to update your entertainment bucket-list.
What’s New for Your Netflix-Binge?
Tons of exciting movies and series are coming to Netflix this December. We are sharing the details of some of them.
Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom
Releasing on Netflix on December 18th, 2020, this is perhaps the biggest movie of the year. People are anticipating the movie even more because they want to see Chadwick Boseman. He plays the role of one of the protagonists in the movie and his untimely death has left fans emotional.
The movie is set in the 1920s in Chicago. It is based on an award-winning play. George C. Wolfe is the director and the movie revolves around the tensions between Ma Rainey, played by Viola Davis, and her management. The actress has gained massive popularity after her show How to Get Away with Murder.
Other cast members include Taylor Paige, Colman Domingo, Michael Potts, Glynn Turman, and others. People are not going to miss it!
The Prom
Releasing December 11th this year, The Prom is a star-studded musical. In fact, it is one of those few originals where Netflix has managed to assemble such a massive cast. And considering the prevailing pandemic this year, this is perhaps the only prom you will be able to attend!
The musical revolves around an ensemble that swarms a small-town girl in high school. All she wants to do is to take her girlfriend to the prom but it is frowned upon.
The glamorous cast includes Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep, Kerry Washington, James Corden, Jo Ellen Pelman, Andrew Rannells, Keegan-Michael Key, and others.
The Midnight Sky
The Netflix 2020 movie lineup gets stronger with this title. The Midnight Sky brings on a lethal combo of a stellar cast and a whopping budget. This sci-fi thriller revolves around a space scientist working desperately in the Arctic to prevent a space crew from returning to Earth
Curious about the cast? The movie is starring George Clooney, Felicity Jones, Kyle Chandler, and Sophie Rundle.
Mank
Mank is a much-anticipated, latest biopic on Netflix. Its filming finished in early 2020 but it will be released on December 4, 2020, on Netflix. It is based on the life of Herman J. Mankiewicz, who is the co-writer of Citizen Kane, a highly regarded movie in the history of Hollywood.
The cast is appealing and includes Amanda Seyfried, Gary Oldman, Lily Collins, Tuppence Middleton Leven Rambin, Tom Pelphrey, and others.
Robin Robin
Robin Robin from the Aardman Studios is announced for the Christmas of 2020 but it doesn’t have a specific release date. It is a 30-minute special and the plot revolves around a bird raised by mice. As the bird grows older, it begins to question her very origins. Eventually, it sets out to find about where does it come from.
Michael Please is the writer and Daniel Ojari is the director of this short animated special.
What’s Leaving Netflix?
Netflix loses TV series and movies every month. It’s mainly because that’s how the licensing deals work. So, here are a few titles, which will be leaving your favorite streaming platform this December. You still have a chance to watch them before they are taken off in December 2020,
Ralph Breaks the Internet
The Disney movie, Ralph Breaks the Internet, came to Netflix via a Disney contract. It stayed on the said streaming platform since 2011 but is soon departing. Therefore, if you are planning to watch this fun movie with your kids, now is the time!
Highway to Heaven
The first 5 seasons of Highway to Heaven are leaving Netflix in November-December, 2020. This isn’t really good news for the fans of classic TV and they will end up trying to justify their Netflix subscription.
Other old and high profile TV series are also expected to be removed from Netflix by the end of the year.
The Vampire Diaries
The Vampire Diaries is a highly popular show and its spin-off The Originals is also much-acclaimed. However, all 8 seasons of the show are going to be taken off Netflix this December. Fortunately, for the moment, it is only leaving Netflix UK.
So, if you are one of those people who have watched The Originals first and plan to watch The Vampire Diaries soon, it’s time to binge-watch it.
Some other shows and movies leaving Netflix by the end of the year are Lucky Number Slevin, The Rite, Nightcrawler, Bedazzled, All I Want for Christmas, Compulsion, Black Snake Moan, and Cousin Bette. I’m planning to pay my internet charges via Spectrum mobile billing and binge-on these gems before they go!
